When I buy a makeup item I don’t like, it’s like finding out my puppy died. Alright, that’s a little dramatic (I don’t even have a puppy). But the gist is the same. I bought something with my hard-earned coin, and tried in vain to like it by using it over and over again, hoping something will change. Sigh. Not to worry – I’m here to warn you about these products I’ve been disappointed with to save you from wasting your money! Always turn something negative into a positive. 😉
A disclaimer: Just because I don’t like these products, doesn’t mean you’re wrong/bad if you like them! Keep on doin’ you! This is just from my own personal experience. Makeup is different for everyone.
Without further ado, let’s get into it!
1. Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara
I tried to like you, I really did. But you’re so dry and do literally almost nothing for my lashes.
With all the hype surrounding this product, I was expecting a lot. So after trying this multiple times and still ending up with limp, sad eyelashes, I was extremely disappointed. Not to mention the wand is huge and hard to maneuver around my eyes without getting mascara on my eyelids.
I know this is only the travel size, but I was expecting more especially considering the fact that many people I saw talking about this online said the travel size formula is better. This one unfortunately gets a big thumbs down from me!
2. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light
I was so sad when this didn’t work out. I only bought the little size because I wanted to try it out before I got the full thing, and I’m so glad I did.
It literally looks like nothing on my skin.
I’ve tried using a huge brush, a fan brush, and actually scrubbing my brushes back and forth in the pan to get something to show up on my skin, but no cigar. I also tried Radiant Lights when I was in Sephora and that one looked like I had just brushed glitter all over my face.
Sorry Hourglass, as much as I wanted to like this, it’s just not for me.
3. E.L.F Aqua Beauty Radiant Gel Lip Tint
This is a decent product. It gives you a light wash of color that lasts all day, and it’s buildable so you can make it more or less opaque.
But the taste. Holy guacamole on a stick, the taste. It is godawful. I’m not putting this stuff in my mouth, people. I’m putting it on my lips, and a few minutes later, it’s like I just poured acid into my mouth.
Just don’t do it, guys. Don’t do it. Not worth the 2.99.
4. Wet N’ Wild Max Volume Plus Mascara
Much like the Too Faced Better Than Sex, this does not do anything for my sad, sparse lashes. The wand is super skinny, which I’m not a fan of. Also, the formula gets super dry in the tube after using it only a few times.
I like using this on my lower lashes because it separates them nicely, but I definitely don’t agree with the claim that it give you volume. If you already have crazy long lashes then you might like this, but personally, I need a thickening, volumizing mascara that separates and lengthens. Not too much to ask, right? 😉
5. Lorac Behind the Scenes Eye Primer
You’ve probably tried this if you’ve ever bought a Lorac Pro palette. For me, it’s just too greasy and slippery. My eyeshadow won’t last very long on top of this guy. As you can see, I’ve used a fair amount of this in my efforts to make it work, but no matter how many times I use it, it never holds onto my eyeshadow the way I would like.
6. No. 7 Perfectly Bronzed Bronzing Pearls
I picked this up while I was in the UK (before No. 7 came to the US) visiting family. My cousin swears by this brand so I decided to try something out.
If you saw my post on my Top 5 Favorite Foundations for Dry Skin, you’ll know that I love their foundation. But, what appears to be a common theme with these products, it just didn’t show up on my skin. I just don’t think I’m a fan of cosmetic pearls in general. It’s extremely difficult to pick up product off them, and if you spill them, you’re screwed. I prefer my makeup compact and not at risk of spilling everywhere (except you translucent powder. Love you bae.) .
7. Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain
This stuff straight up smells and feels like glue. It doesn’t give off a lot of color, and it stays sticky on my lips as long as I’m wearing it.
I wouldn’t even call it moisturizing – it feels more like a sticky, goopy layer on top of my lips that never really sinks in. Sorry Revlon, it’s a thumbs down from me.
Have you tried any of these products and do you like them or dislike them? Let me know!
