Lately, my skin has been dry as the Sahara. I have eczema, which makes it about ten times worse than normal. Despite these issues, there are a few foundations that are my go-tos, even when my skin is feeling extra dry. Actually, I normally won’t wear makeup if I’m having a dry spell, but if I’m going to work or somewhere that demands I look nice, I’ll reach for one of these bad boys. They range from a dewy finish to a matte finish, but none feel uncomfortable on my face or emphasize dryness. If you’re a dry-skinned gal like me, or even normal to combo, read on to hopefully discover your new favorite foundation!
1. Nars Sheer Glow Foundation
Ah yes, the cult favorite. I love Nars products and as a brand, and this foundation is no except. It gives a radiant, dewy finish, and has a formula that doesn’t seep into fine lines or get stuck in dry patches. The texture is liquidy and glides on smoothly. It stays throughout the day, though you may need to powder on places you might get oily if you lean more towards the combination side. I find I prefer the finish when applied with a beauty blender as opposed to a brush, but it looks great either way!
2. Wet n’ Wild Coverall Foundation
This one is an oldie but a goodie. Oh, and it’s also around $4. Its formula and finish is surprisingly similar to the Nars Sheer Glow, but the coverage is a little more sheer. The finish is extremely dewy and glowy, but again, I would recommend setting it with powder in the areas you find foundation to slip around. To keep that luminous glow, just add a small dusting of powder where you need it. This might be a little harder to find since the new Photofocus foundation is so popular now (another foundation that I love!), but scour around your local drugstore and check the bottom shelf of the Wet n’ Wild display. I’m telling ya, you won’t be disappointed.
3. Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation
I’ve been told to steer clear of this foundation because apparently it was going to look cakey on my dry skin, but I’ve found the opposite to be true. Despite its moussey consistency, a sign that usually warns me to stay away from a foundation, I find that when I apply it with a beauty blender, it goes on smoothly, doesn’t settle into any lines, and doesn’t emphasize my dry spots. Even after wearing it all day, it still looked matte, but not dry! Now, usually matte foundations are a big no-no for me, but this one feels creamy and almost hydrating when I apply it. If you’re still wary, I’d recommend using a hydrating primer underneath for some added moisture.
4. No. 7 Stay Perfect Foundation
This one has a little bit thicker of a consistency than Nars Sheer Glow, but it gives a really nice amount of coverage with a smooth, satin finish. Luckily, the US just recently started selling No.7 at Walgreens, so it’s no longer just available for my friends across the pond! If you like a satin, but not too glowy finish, I’d definitely recommend this to you.
5. Maybelline Fit Me Dewy + Smooth
Just as the name suggests, this foundation gives me a beautiful dewy glow. Your face will looks almost oily after applying it, but if you powder in the places you don’t want that luminosity, your skin will look fresh and radiant. The coverage is medium to full without being drying like a lot of fuller coverage foundations can be. It’s a lot like the No. 7 foundation except it gives you extra, extra glowiness. For my friends who are looking for that particular quality in a foundation, this is for you.
